Refelection post

This years math class helped me with my PBAT a lot. I was able to learn how to find the minimum value on a calculator, which I later needed on my PBAT. I was also able to learn how to graph, and practice presentation skills due to group work and sharing out.

Yes i do actually want to send my letter to the company.

A few things that could change is the the way the PBAT is set up. There could be a little bit more order when putting sections together.

Exit Slip 4/8/10 !!

The expressions were able to be written in google docs. I completed these expressions by going to google docs, opening up a document, clicking on insert then scrolling down to equation. A/fter pressing "insert equation" i want to the fourth box set of equations which has fractions, square root symbols, to the power of 2 symbols. I clicked on which symbol i was trying to use and typed my numbers into the appropriate spots and clicked insert then the equation appeared on the google docs form.

Exit Slip 5.6.10

1) the overall task of todays lesson was to find the minimum surface area of your personal can.
2) It is necessary to find the minimum surface area of our can because that is the basis of this PBAt. We have to minimize the surface area without minimising the conduct of the product, and by seeing the minimum surface area we will be able to see how small our can will actually be.

Exit Slip 5/4/10

The new surface area is going to be used for this project when determining the height for my can, and simplifying my function. The ultimate goal is to apply the new functiion and solving for the height to your can.

2. I would use this function to visually represent the relationship between the height by changing it and showing the difference between the surface area.

Exit Slip Michelle Decosta

1. It is necessary for us to combine two formulas, because we need these formulas in order to include them in our can experiment. We would also need to combine two formulas, because we need to know all the possible measurements that will be included in the project

2. If i was to apply the same skills for my can i would need to find the surface area and volume formula for a cylinder. When i recieve my results I will then include the expressions into my project which will make it possible for me to find the answers to the formula.

Exit Slip 11.4

The overall task of this PBAT is to find the radius, height, volume, surface area, of a can. Once you find all these values we will put the equation in on a computer program and play with different volumes of the same can.

Exit Slip 11.4 4/27

The important concept about today's lesson was learning how to find the height using radius and volume.
I used a calculator today. A calculator was helpful because it helped me to multiply my big numbers. Using the tool made my life easier because i didn't need to use a pen and paper to multiply my numbers.

Exit Slip 4.23.10 Michelle D

Today I helped Raquel by telling her what the surface area calculation was. I was also helped by others in the classroom because they told me what I missed yesterday.
I was able to accomplish everything on my sheet with surface area and volume.
The skills I learned today was how to measure the diameter of a can, and also measure the height. In the real world my skills may come in handy because my son or daughter will be in high school one day. I also have a little sister that is doing this exact thing in math this semester.
My last question on this topic is, How do you determine the dimensions when labeling your work.

Writing objectively MD 11.4

There are two functions shown in this three column table. The first function is y1=4x^3+5, and the second function is, y2=7x^3+100. The results of these two functions are shown in the first column "x".

The first column contains some values for the independent variable x. These values range from: -25 to 25. The scale is set to 5.

These x values were substituted into the function, and the results are displayed in the second and third columns. Since these are quadratic functions, the y-values first decrease as x-values increase from negative numbers to zero. For the first function,(0,5) is the vertex, and for the second function (0,100) is the vertex. Which is also the minimum pointon the graph. Then, the y-values increase as x increases from 0 to positive values.

11.4 exit slip Michelle Decosta

The curvature of y2 compared to y1 is neither wider, but it is reflected on the x-axis.

Compared to y1, y2's graph is shifted vertically . We see this in the graph by noting that the equation 3x^2+100 compared to 5x^2-100 makes the equation wider, because the smaller the number is to the second power the wider the line will be.

There is no horizontal shift because the lines have the same pattern horizontally. The minimums line up at x=+-100

exit slip 11.4 4/13/10

y1=-3x+20^2+2
y2=3x+20^+2

The two graphs that were created are different. They differ because my Y1 line was a complete reflection of my Y2.
I went about comparing my graphs by going to Google spreadsheet and entering both equations.
Once I entered the equations I dragged down both equations in there row and it calculated the numbers for me. After that Both my lines were shown into my graphs, and all I had to do was title my graph. After titling i realized that my y1 line is a complete reflection.
After completing my comparison between lines I created a table that shows my highest degree term, my constant term, and my terms that were used such as, Y1 and Y2.

Exit slip!

1) One major idea I learned today was that spreadsheet can be a very easy way to graph a function. Using spreadsheet will make my life much easier.
2) One major problem I had today was not remembering to go Firefox, and also when using spreadsheet how to do my function to the "y" axis.

Progress update 2

-Not having a complete understanding of the topic it became hard for me to generalize. Since I was confused at first, I had to ask Wan for help. Eventually I started generalizing by following the steps I did first when creating my table. -Instead of using numbers, I had to use the variable x and the girth. once I generalized I put the generalization for volume in my calculator, and recieved my table.
-When graphing I set up my axes by putting volume on the x axis and on the y axis I used my "x" values.
-For UPS I made a table and recorded X,length, width, height, volume, and girth. I repeated these steps for Fed Ex Express but my values of x differed ultimately changing the other components in the table.
When finally putting all our findings together I say that all our 3rd degree parabolas were around the same range. Being that they were all 3rd degree they had 2 turns.

Homework

MY GROUP AT FIRST WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED ABOUT THE TABLES. WE STARTED OUR TABLES AND THEN FOUND OUT THAT OUR TABLES COULD POSSIBLE BE WRONG. WE STARTED OVER AND NOW WE ARE JUST WAITING FOR ONE GROUP MEMBER TO FINISH THEIR PART.

Questions

- How do you create a group report using google docs?
- when will I get my group?

I Dont have any more questions as of yet

extra credit

1) the first two boxes on this page have the same dimensions!

But in my opinion, I would assume the boxes shouldn't have the same dimension being that the postal office is suppose to sell different box sizes in case you need a smaller box or larger box. They wouldn't sell boxes the same size it doesn't make sense.

Bored in MATH!

I am reaLly bored in this math class. It is now 10:03 and i think im looking forward to Caroline. Jos just walked in an houre late -_- , Sha'Eika is semi-humming she woof-____- , and Amanda is as qiuet as a house mouse. I think shes tired from 106. Well someone comment and make Wan happy ! ---_____---
